GASF Faculty Mixer 2024 – Faculty Introductions
Students who have been admitted to UCSD and believe they may be eligible for a GASF scholarship are invited to apply for the scholarship on a link that will be activated on the GASF website in mid-March, around the time admission notifications are provided by UCSD.
Applications will be reviewed by the GASF selection committee utilizing the criteria provided in the About Us tab of this website. You will be notified around mid-April if you have received a scholarship offer. Neither UCSD nor its employees are involved in the selection of scholarship recipients. GASF Board Members will call everyone who has received a GASF scholarship offer to answer questions about the campus and the scholarship program and to ensure each offeree understands the expectations and requirements of the program. In this regard, please note, receipt of the scholarship is dependent upon your decision to attend UC San Diego, to live on-campus during your first and second years, unless an exception is granted, and to participate in BASF enrichment activities as described below.
The scholarship is worth much more than $10,000 because, in addition to the financial award, the GASF Scholarship Program includes invaluable academic enrichments preferred by high-achieving students like you, such as:
– For students admitted to the Jacobs School of Engineering, this means the 5-week on campus JSOE Summer Engineering Institute (see “for Engineering students only” section below for funding and other details);
– For admitted students in all other majors, the 5-week on campus or virtual Summer Bridge program is available. However, you must submit a timely Summer Bridge application;
You will be joining a true community of 200 current GASF Scholars at UCSD. GASF brings its Scholars together several times each year. All Scholars are expected to participate in the GASF Program’s enrichment activities and maintain at least a 2.7 GPA.
Our intention is not merely to have you select UCSD, it is to ensure that you thrive and develop to your highest potential as a member of the Triton and GASF Families. We want you to graduate having benefited from all that this world-class university has to offer, prepared for your highest aspirations for graduate or professional school, employment, or entrepreneurial opportunities.
We look forward to seeing you soon at UC San Diego.
Sincerely,
Ed Spriggs,
Chair, GASF
Janet Fisher,
Vice Chair, GASF
For GASF Scholarship applicants admitted to the Jacobs School of Engineering: Please note, receipt of the scholarship is contingent upon all of the factors applicable to non-engineering students (please review them) plus your commitment to participate in the JSOE enrichment activities mentioned below.
Particularly important is your participation in the JSOE Summer Engineering Institute (SEI) for which financial aid will be available provided you make a timely FAFSA application for summer financial aid to the UCSD Financial Aid Office. It is our intent to provide additional GASF scholarship support to supplement the financial aid award to make your participation in SEI cost-free.
JSOE also offers participation in its IDEA Scholars Program, which GASF considers to be important for the success of all GASF Scholars who are engineering majors. Therefore, your timely application to and participation in the IDEA Scholars Program is also a GASF expectation.
