FOR ADMITTED TRANSFER STUDENTS: HOW TO APPLY FOR A GASF SCHOLARSHIP

For UCSD-admitted first year transfer applicants, the Lennon Goins Alumni Scholarship Fund (GASF) Scholarship of $2,500 is renewable in annual increments of $2,500 over a two-year period for up to $5,000. This unique scholarship is for students in any UCSD major with outstanding academic and community service records, among other qualifications highlighted below, and may be used toward tuition, books, and/or living expenses. Please click on the About Us tab for additional details concerning scholarship eligibility criteria.

APPLICATION PROCESS AND DEADLINES:

Transfer students who have been admitted to UC San Diego and believe they may be eligible for a GASF scholarship are invited to apply for the scholarship on a link that will be activated on the GASF website in mid-April, around the time admission notifications for transfer students are provided by UCSD.

Applications will be reviewed by the GASF selection committee utilizing the criteria provided in the About Us tab of this website. You will be notified around mid-May if you have received a scholarship offer. Neither UCSD nor its employees are involved in the selection of scholarship recipients. GASF Board Members will call everyone who has received a GASF scholarship offer to answer questions about the campus and the scholarship program and to ensure each offeree understands the expectations and requirements of the program. In this regard, please note, receipt of the scholarship is dependent upon your decision to attend UC San Diego, to live on-campus for your junior and senior year unless an exception is granted (upon written request this requirement can be waived for married, head of household, or students over 22 years of age), and to participate in GASF enrichment activities (as described below).

GASF SCHOLARSHIP ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS FOR TRANSFERS

The scholarship is worth much more than $5,000 because, in addition to the financial award, the GASF Scholarship Program includes invaluable academic enrichments preferred by high-achieving students like you, such as:

  • Participate in the Triton Transfer Hub’s Summer Activities (Required).  You may select any options within the steps that best meet your needs and interests.  Visit the website at https://transferstudents.ucsd.edu/new-admits/step/index.html
  • Connect with your assigned GASF Alumni Mentor (Required).
  • Participate in the GASF Fall Orientation for Transfer Scholars (Required), the Winter Quarter GASF Experiential Learning Workshop (Recommended), and the Spring Quarter BASF Faculty Mixer (Recommended).
  • Establish an Academic Plan with your college and major department academic advisors (Required).
